Here’s a quick How to Draw Sonic tutorial that’s handy for beginers who want to get started. This is a good trick for how to draw cartoon characters in general because it helps you construct the underlying shapes in 3 dimensions.

I personally prefer to do my sketching on paper, but if you can get good results with a tablet then you have the added advantage of easily deleting your construction lines.
