I love learning how to draw Sonic so much that I can’t help doodle the little critter any chance I get. Whether I’m on the phone, on a bus, or watching tv, I’ll grab a pen and make doodles of Sonic, Dr. Robotnik, Tails, and the others.

A lot of people would love to know how to draw cartoon characters really well, but they think it’s just too hard or they’re not good enough. I don’t think this is the case, so I want to set the record straight in this article.

If you search online for tips on how to draw cartoon people then sooner or later you will find some of the following advise: -

You need to develop a good sense of proportions

You need to devote a lot of time for practicing

You need to have good imagination

You should try to perfect your skill of drawing nice lines and curves

You want to have a good eye for colours and shades

I agree that you need to have all these things to be a good artist, but I disagree that you should focus on them too much. As far as I’m concerned, there is something far more important than all of the above put together. My golden rule of learning how to draw Sonic to perfection is this; HAVE FUN!!

Here are my favourite ways to have fun with drawing cartoons:-

Draw in a group, club, or in the company of friends.

Carry my drawings in a portfolio and take them with me to show friends and relatives all the time.

Draw Sonic to music or while a Sonic DVD is playing in the background. That way you can more easily capture a sense of excitement in the drawing.

Get some really nice pens and pencils to draw with. (I personally love using magic markers.)

Share your drawings on forums and on Facebook groups so that you can make friends with other people with the same interest as you.

Buy a really cool comic and copy your favourite drawings as best you can (one of my favourite past times).

So long as you keep having fun, you are much more likely to carry on drawing for years and years. If you aren’t having much fun then you’ll probably give up, or your drawings won’t look as good because you won’t feel as creative.

Sharing the experience of drawing is the key to perfecting the skill of how to draw Sonic.

Like comic/manga book artists have to draw so many different things to get their ideas illustrated.

How can they draw all those different objects, backgrounds, poses, ect through just their memory/imagination ? Becuase I want to be a comic book artist, but I don’t think I will ever be as good as most professionals through just my imagination and have to gather some reference photos to get a handle of drawing some new unfamiliar things.

After a lot of practice, you don’t need to use references as much. For example, once you understand how to draw the human form you can draw a person doing pretty much anything. Also, there are simple rules that govern perspective. Once you know these, you can draw any shape from any point of view.

I would imagine that for some things they use references. Like if they want to draw the New York City skyline, they aren’t going to guess they will find a picture.

Take lots of art classes, read books, and PRACTICE! You will only be as good as the effort you put in.

I started reading graphic novels a while ago. I love them and also love to draw. I’m trying to learn how the artists in these books do it. I’m not talking about manga though, I don’t read that stuff, I like the superhero graphic novels. My favorite superhero is Batman, and I particularly love Jim Lee’s art in the Hush story arc. I also like the art in Identity Crisis.

I just have no idea how the artists do it though. Please help explain the roles of the penciller, inker, and colorist (also any others I should know of). Sure, I have a basic knowledge of what they do, buy I want to know what tools and techniques they use. Help me know what I should get to draw, because so far it’s just pencils and markers. It’d be great if you could maybe post a website with a good how-to-draw comic books book or one with drawing tools artists use. Thanks!
I want to know what kind of utensils and stuff they use and maybe programs and I also want to learn to draw in the style of artists like the ones I mentioned earlier. I can already draw pretty well, I just want to know how to learn to draw like that.

Well, you know the pencils so I will explain the inkers.

You see good fellow, classically the inkers job was just that, fill in the pencils with ink to darken the lines, shape the atmosphere with shadow, et cetera. These days, it can be done in Photoshop, also there are programs out there which I do not know the proper name for that allow you to ink in the lines digitally, heck even draw if you are good enough with the mouse the same way.

I’m looking for a book that will teach me how to lay out a comic page, arrange panels and talk balloons, and what good angles to put the characters in.
I’m not really into western comics such as Superman or Spiderman. They just aren’t my style. I need it in a more Manga/Anime-style, but not in a 80’s and 90’s style anime like I’ve seen in most manga instructional books. Something more in the style of Bleach by Kubo Tite.
PLEASE NO BOOKS ON HOW TO DRAW!! BOOKS ON COMIC LAYOUT!

try this,i hope it helps.

I have the ambition of drawing comic books. I already have the ideas of the story, the plot, the characters, and everything akin to that. What I need to know is how to get started. What type of paper do I use? How much can I do without use of a computer? How many pages should it be? What do I do with it when I’m done? And any other details like that would be extremely helpful. Thank you very much.
I also already have the drawing skills.

If your doing an amateur comic, there are many ways of going about it, there’s tradition methods and digital methods. I’m more familiar with the traditional method, which crosses into digital format, so I will explain this methods as I know it.

First the materials you need. You need paper that can take wet ink, I personally like marker paper which is pricey but its nearly water-proof and translucent so that you can trace from your sketches. Art stores sell other paper types meant for inking on, so ask your local art store for choices. Next you need waterproof black ink (Speedball-brand is a good choice) a set of ink pen nibs with penholder, some different size black markers, and a fineline black pen (which will be used to line out the comic boxes, or "panels"). Also get a triangle ruler for drawing the panels and a GOOD eraser. I use a Korean-made "MOO Professional Eraser" which erases even the most stubborn pencil lines.

In any comic, one first plans out an outline of what your gonna draw in the comic. You do a quick storyboard or sketches, or as I like to, write down the sequence of events. Afterward, you can start drawing out your panels and their content using a light pencil (H pencil for me) on your comic paper. When first start drawing your panels, don’t worry about detail, just do quick outlines and get a rough draft of your comic going on.

Later on, you can start fleshing out and adding more detail and speech bubbles to your outlines (with a pencil still). Don’t worry about erasing too much, you can do that after you ink. Once you have finish off everything in pencil, you can start inking OVER your pencil lines. You might want to check out tutorials on using pen nibs beforehand. After you have inked your pages and the ink has DRIED COMPLETELY, erase your rough pencil lines with your GOOD eraser. The ink shouldn’t rub off, but try not to erase too hard, just enough to get the pencil lines gone.

Once the pencil lines are gone and you’re satisfied with your beautifully inked comic pages, you can either scan them to your computer for further processing like adding text to your speech bubbles (some of my art buddies say writing speech bubbles by hand is better, I think they’re crazy ) and sharing with your audience. Traditionally, at this stage artists will run their pages through a photocopier, which filters out dust&speckle and blackens the ink lines, so you can do this if you’re feeling old school .

What I just wrote are rough steps to doing a comic, do check out some of the great books out there that teach this stuff in detail. Of course, you probably don’t feel like buying a book, but do check your local library under Art Section, mine has a dozen books on the topic, how I came to know this stuff in the first place. Good luck!

I’m writing a story, and would like to make it into a comic book. I will do most (if not all) of the artwork myself, and would like to have it published and distributed. I’ve never undertook something like this and would like to know what kinds of costs I’m looking at, what companies to talk to, how I can get from publishing the physical book to distributing and selling it, etc… basically I know nothing about the process beyond writing and drawing the book. Where do I go from there?

well you cant be paid to p[publish it but you can start by printing small issue samples if you can get more then 200 copies sold a week you can then be able to sell spots for adverts for a small but generous fee if your ads perform well within a two month gap you can then publish full issues which would contain more then your first copies you can then watch as you would get offers from small publishing companies asking for the rights but hold them down unless you can get two or three major well known companies you can then ask for more

this whole process will take several months but 13 months you will see an increase in pay that will factor your whole operations round about 50 maybe 23% but thats only in the first year

There are a few, http://www.polykarbon.com/tutorials/index.htm is where I started several years ago…

Since then I have amassed a number of books and pdf’s from the net and they have all been good…

Google can be your friend here, but it takes a lot of time to find the good stuff…
