I love learning how to draw Sonic so much that I can’t help doodle the little critter any chance I get. Whether I’m on the phone, on a bus, or watching tv, I’ll grab a pen and make doodles of Sonic, Dr. Robotnik, Tails, and the others.

A lot of people would love to know how to draw cartoon characters really well, but they think it’s just too hard or they’re not good enough. I don’t think this is the case, so I want to set the record straight in this article.

If you search online for tips on how to draw cartoon people then sooner or later you will find some of the following advise: -

  • You need to develop a good sense of proportions
  • You need to devote a lot of time for practicing
  • You need to have good imagination
  • You should try to perfect your skill of drawing nice lines and curves
  • You want to have a good eye for colours and shades

I agree that you need to have all these things to be a good artist, but I disagree that you should focus on them too much. As far as I’m concerned, there is something far more important than all of the above put together. My golden rule of learning how to draw Sonic to perfection is this; HAVE FUN!!

Here are my favourite ways to have fun with drawing cartoons:-

  • Draw in a group, club, or in the company of friends.
  • Carry my drawings in a portfolio and take them with me to show friends and relatives all the time.
  • Draw Sonic to music or while a Sonic DVD is playing in the background. That way you can more easily capture a sense of excitement in the drawing.
  • Get some really nice pens and pencils to draw with. (I personally love using magic markers.)
  • Share your drawings on forums and on Facebook groups so that you can make friends with other people with the same interest as you.
  • Buy a really cool comic and copy your favourite drawings as best you can (one of my favourite past times).

So long as you keep having fun, you are much more likely to carry on drawing for years and years. If you aren’t having much fun then you’ll probably give up, or your drawings won’t look as good because you won’t feel as creative.

Sharing the experience of drawing is the key to perfecting the skill of how to draw Sonic.

How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way by John Buscema and Stan Lee.

There are other good books. Try Jack Hamm’s Cartooning the Head and Figure. Beyond that though you should have other books. George Bridgeman’s anatomy books, Burne Hogarth’s books and Jeno Barcsay’s Anatomy for the Artist should also be on your shelf.

Also, if you like Manga at least something on Ukiyo-e Hokusai and Hiroshoge.

I suggest you visit www.dickblick.com, they are a great online source for art supplies. My best friend is going into animation and possibly illustration and she buys most of her books and supplies from this site. Just type in a key word in the search bar like "draw" or "draw comics" or "cartoon" any of these searches will bring you to a list of books they sell. Just click on them to see the cover and chose ones that fit your style of drawing. Also there are books to help you write the story board of comics, you might want to look into that as well. I’ve looked on Marvel’s website before, they have instructions on how to apply. I would recommend looking up comic companies you really like and feel you could contribute to and get in contact with them either via mail or email asking how to proceed with your goal and their company.

Do i have to buy something to draw a comic book story??

I wanna send off some drawing and story like a comic book,but all i have is my tablet is that good enough???

There are any number of ways you can make a comic strip, from drawing it entirely with a pen or pencil on folded pieces of paper, to drawing it and then scanning and doing clean-up digitally, or doing the entire thing digitally. You can use any tools to string together sequential images in any way to make a comic. There are no rules, there are no limits.

If you’re really interested in making a comic, you should definitely buy or take a trip to the library to take out Scott McCloud’s "Making Comics." It’s a great book and sequel to his "Understanding Comics" which not only goes over some of the tools and techniques of making comics, but deconstructs the concepts, theories, standards and practices of visual storytelling.

Best part is, the book about comics is a comic book itself!

Contrary to Dream Puddles’ belief, practicing over and over again WILL make you better. You get better faster with a little aid though.

My suggestion is very simple for anyone who would like to develop artists skills: Go to a bookstore like Borders, where you can probably find some cheap sketchbooks. Now go to the art section and pick up just about any art instructional book, the simpler the better. Pick up "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" since you want to draw comics.

Then, sit down and follow the simple exercises in the book. Fill up your sketchbook from the first to the last page. Just sit down and do it, it doesn’t matter if it sucks (because it will suck) but when you sit down and fill up that whole book following the most simple instructions, you WILL be a better artist. That’s it. Do that, and you will be amazed at the difference between the first and last page.

Depends on the size of the book and how many people are working on it together. Large books probably a few months. Small books probably a month. You could look up release dates for ongoing animes on websites or publisher websites. or the time between two book. I think Yen press has that.
