People are one of the hardest things to draw and the best way I know of is just to draw from observation. You’d be amazing at how if you draw something enough, like a hand, or arm, eventually, that muscle memory in you hand kicks in and you can draw a hand without even consciously thinking about what’s supposed to go where. You’re hand just knows. Not to over-use a metaphor but it’s like when you learned to ride a bike. Your brain was overwhelmed with trying to keep everything in mind (balance, right foot, now left foot, look forward…..). Eventually you did it enough to the point where you didn’t have to consciously think of each step involved in riding.

I began drawing at a very early age inspired by cartoons and animated movies. The backgrounds on the movie Beauty and the Beast made me want to take oil painting lessons. The movie the Lion King made look for animal picture books, it made me visit the zoo, so I could draw animals.

It was cartoons that made me want to learn how to draw faces, hands and feet. It was cartoon that gave me ideas on what to draw over and over again.

Today there are too many computer animated movies and TV shows. Even the cartoons don’t have much art behind them. Cartoons such as Phineas and Ferb are made heavily relying on computers. I can tell the backgrounds are done with computers, there’s no art behind them. The characters’ animation rely heavily on Flash animation, the art is just not there.

No art? I think your view of art is too limited. There isn’t a person in the world who wouldn’t believe that the gorgeous landscapes created in the pixar studios are not art. They are indeed art. Art of the highest caliber. And like all art, art is changing. Computers are just the new brushes used by artists. The old cartoons, drawn by warner brothers and other American cartoon studios were no greater art then the stuff you find on cartoon network today. it’s just different. It takes an artists a long time to render digital art. I know some people think that rendering is automatic, but that’s just not the case. Of course they have time saving tricks that they use, just like any artists. (American studios used to export the in between frames to other countries to get them done faster. Some still do)

Don’t let yourself get stuck in one frame of mind as to what art is. Expand your mind and open up to new possibilities. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I went to Youtube and searched on ‘drawing cartoons Balto’ which gave me some good things.

But really, develop your own cartoon style. Take a look at what’s being done by others–places like Drunkduck.com has multiple cartoonists putting their work up over there for instance.

This proved to be untrue. One day, while we were conversing over MSN (Messenger, an instant message utility that allows you to chat with others with ease), her Display Picture suddenly changed. It was, now, of herself and who I can only assume was the boyfriend, holding her, and, as if to twist the knife, they were surrounded by many bubbly pink hearts.

She changed the picture shortly after to something else: a cartoon-ish drawing of two animals together. This could be interpreted in many ways. She could simply think it cute. I tried to hope. Maybe she had at first mis-clicked the picture of her and her boyfriend, and it wasn’t on purpose.

Not long after, on a social networking site, her picture was of her locking lips with said boyfriend. It remained firmly in place, and, I knew then, that she cared for him, and not me. I tried, time and time again, to be angry at her for it, but ultimately, I knew it was my fault that I allowed myself to become attached in such a way to a girl who I knew might have a love (and let me make this clear: I do not support cheating in any way, and if I knew she was with him, loved him or not, I would not have made any moves.)

I failed in several ways, here: when first I met her, I was so taken with her that, because I wanted to believe it was so, I blindly believed that she cared for me as I did her, and that she did not have a boyfriend anymore. I then tricked myself further, making the downfall all the worse, by desperately clinging on to the hope that she didn’t really still care for her boyfriend, and that it was just an accidental changing of the Display Picture. I let myself take small things and turn them into what I thought of as ’signs’, such as the fact that she would call me ‘muffin’. I’ve got to admit, I’m a sucker for being called, and calling others, things like that, but only in the case that it means something in a loving way. So I, at the time seemingly reasonably, assumed that it meant something.

I can hardly think of anything to say to her, because it’s not her fault, but I know she’d feel bad if I told her how I felt, and what seeing those pictures did to me. She knows something’s wrong. I am a failure at masking my pain and pretending to be happy. I told her not to worry, and that it was nothing, but she still worries. I want her, at least, to be happy. In fact, all I want is for her to be happy, and I try to be happy for her.

But I can’t. I’m glad that she’s happy, but I can’t muster any happiness for myself. I want to be her friend, but it is, as you may be able to imagine, quite painful to see a girl you like in the arms of another man whenever you speak with her.

So, I ask of you all here who have read thus far, what would you have me do? Should I declare openly my feelings? Should I try to detach myself, to drift away until there is no relationship, friendly or otherwise, between us? Should I try to learn to be happy for her, and remain her friend? I hope that you can help me, and thank you for your time.
I also want it to be clear that I don’t want to hurt her. She’s a good girl, and didn’t think of our relationship as anything but a friendship: she had no means of knowing how I felt, other than assuming or guessing, and she didn’t do any of this out of malevolence.

My advice is to lessen your contact with her or have none at all because you still like her and the more communication you have with her, the more it will eat at you.

I just don’t exactly know what to do or look for. I just want to be with someone that will make me happy and be happy with a guy who will do his best to meet her needs. Someone that wants a guy who’s a bit of a shy geek, smart, has a sense of humor, takes care of himself physically (I’m not fat and never will let myself be), is clean, doesn’t constantly think about sex, admittedly is kind of a furry (not the humping each other in animal suits kind, I just have an anthropomorphic animal persona and still like some cartoons), and is into martial arts (6 years of karate under my obi), is an artist who loves drawing anything, and can/will cook. I openly admit I am not going to win a "most beautiful person" award in people magazine because I’m not famous, but I am good looking. I’m 18 and not looking for marriage right away but am looking for love.
I don’t think many of you are reading my question very well. Those traits are not what I look for in a girl, they are my traits, basically me selling myself.

My standards for women are that they at least try to like what I like and are willing to take care of themselves. I’m not saying never weight more than 90lbs, just that they don’t let themselves become a statistic for the obesity reports on the news.

But you probably wont find the type of girl youre looking for.
And if you do – she probably wont appreciate all the effort you put into bettering yourself.

Well, try reading The Teachings of Don Juan, and that’ll point you in some new directions.

Just read lots, spend time alone thinking even if you’re bored. Try to experience as many things as you can. Try to be genuine and who you are. If you look at it, there aren’t that many well known young female writers where you live, right? Not many books that look at things like you. Try keeping journals, notes, you know. Just start making up a world for yourself in your head.
